We Visited The BCB British Ceramic Biennial

Are you looking for something to do with the kids this weekend FOR FREE?

As part of Stoke-on-Trent’s regeneration of the city the seventh British Ceramic Biennial Festival based in The Goods Yard in Glebe Street in Stoke-on-Trent, is a yearly festival that celebrates everything to do with clay and ceramics with commissions from local and leading international artists.

This five week festival has quickly become the largest ceramic event in the U.K. On our visit we we’re spoilt with our very own guided tour with the lovely Rhiannon, her knowledge and background of the local and international artists work made the tour extra special.

Many artists found inspiration from Stoke’s industrial heritage and its a great opportunity to get up close with the work. The flagship of the BCB exhibition is the Award 21, which presents 10 of the U.K’s innovative artists who are all chasing a £5000 prize. This exhibition shows all the artists story behind their own individual work.

One of the points of interest to keep your eyes open for is Stoke Makes Plates. This exhibition features more than 250 plates uniquely created by local people from Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme. Each resident has used the plate as their own canvas to tell their own life stories, memories or hopes and aspirations for the future.

Talking of plates and this is something the kids will love too, you can create your very own plate on the potters wheel for free. It makes a perfect keepsake to take home with you once it’s fired.

There’s loads more attractions with the BCB and it’s open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday 10am - 5pm. Best of all its FREE and there’s no need to book, just turn up and enjoy
